Strategy bought 4,603 bitcoin for $369.7 million in the week ending Aug. 30. The company said Monday that this acquisition ended a 10-week period during which it made no purchases. The average price paid was $80,318 per coin, a figure that includes fees and expenses.

The company funded the purchase through its at-the-market equity program. It sold 4,531,421 shares of common stock to generate $602.8 million in net proceeds during the period. Strategy allocated $369.7 million of those funds to buy bitcoin. It used $151.8 million to repurchase its STRC preferred stock and $50.7 million to pay STRC dividends. The remaining $30 million was added to the company's USD Cash account.

Strategy now holds 845,050 bitcoin, which it acquired at an aggregate average price of $75,412 per coin. As of Aug. 30, the company's USD Reserve stood at $5.10 billion and its USD Cash balance was $1.61 billion.

Shares of Strategy rose 4.4% to close at $132.94 on Monday. Bitcoin was trading near $79,000 that day, according to Bloomberg.

This purchase follows a challenging period for the company. Strategy reported a net loss of $8.22 billion for the second quarter of 2026. The loss was driven by an $8.32 billion unrealized loss on digital assets as bitcoin prices fell. As of June 30, the company held 846,000 bitcoin with an average cost of roughly $75,578 per coin, while the trading price was around $64,915.

As bitcoin prices dropped, Strategy moved away from its policy of never selling its coins. The company sold bitcoin for the first time since late 2022 in late May 2026 to fund preferred stock distributions. Fortune reported that these transactions occurred on four separate occasions during the summer and totaled approximately $544 million.

The company also adopted a formal capital framework in late June that authorized bitcoin sales and set aside cash pools for preferred dividends and debt obligations. In a move last week, Strategy established a distinct USD Cash pool in addition to its existing reserve, providing management with greater latitude in capital allocation.

Strategy co-founder Michael Saylor has built the company into the largest corporate holder of bitcoin. According to Bloomberg, Strategy's stock is down about 60% over the past year.
