Privacy Policy

We collect as little as a news site can. This page explains what we gather, why, who touches it, and the control you keep.

01

What we collect

We keep data collection to what a news site actually needs. When you visit, our servers record standard log information: your IP address, browser type, the pages you request, and the time of the request. This is ordinary web-server behaviour.

If you subscribe to a newsletter, we store the email address you give us. That step is optional — you can read everything on NewsMeter without handing over any personal detail.

We use cookies and lightweight analytics to understand which stories are read and to keep the site working. We do not ask for, and do not want, sensitive personal information.

02

How we use it

Server logs help us run the site, diagnose faults, and defend against abuse. Aggregate analytics tell us which coverage is useful so we can plan the desk's work.

Newsletter emails are used only to send the newsletter you asked for. We do not sell email addresses, and we do not use them to build profiles for advertisers.

03

Third parties and our CDN

NewsMeter is served through a content-delivery network and hosting provider. Those providers process request data on our behalf so the site loads quickly and stays online.

We may use a third-party analytics tool and an email-delivery service for the newsletter. These providers act under contract and may only use the data to deliver their service to us. We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.

04

Cookies

Cookies are small files a site stores in your browser. We use them to remember basic preferences and to measure traffic in aggregate.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, though some conveniences may reset between visits.

05

Data retention

We keep server logs only as long as we need them for security and diagnostics, then we discard them. Newsletter emails are kept until you unsubscribe, after which we remove your address from the active list.

06

Your rights

You can ask us what data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Every newsletter we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local privacy law. We honour valid requests under those laws.

07

Contact

To exercise any of these rights, or to ask how your data is handled, reach us through the contact page. We respond to genuine privacy requests promptly.
