Corrections Policy

We count first and conclude second — and when a number turns out wrong, we correct it in the open. Here is how that works.

Last updated June 2026

01

Our standard

NewsMeter reports with numbers, and numbers can be wrong. When we get a figure, a name, a date, or a fact wrong, we fix it — promptly, in full, and where readers can see it.

We treat a correction as part of the reporting, not an embarrassment to bury. A piece that has been corrected is a piece that is now more accurate, and we say so on the page.

02

How to request a correction

If you spot an error in any NewsMeter article, tell us. Reach the newsroom through the contact page with the headline, the line you think is wrong, and — where you can — the source that shows the correct figure.

We check every request against the original data. If the claim holds up, we change the article. If it does not, we will explain why we are leaving it as published.

03

How corrections are marked

When we change a fact after publication, we add a dated note to the article describing what changed and why. Substantive corrections sit near the top of the piece, not hidden at the foot of the page.

For small fixes — a typo, a broken link, a clarified phrase — we may update quietly. For anything that changes the meaning of the story or the size of a number, we flag it openly so the record is clear.

04

Contact

Corrections, clarifications, and complaints about accuracy all go to the same place: the contact page. The faster you reach us, the faster we can set the record straight.
