Seventeen Philips Hue Liane 360-degree Rope Lights went on display at IFA in Berlin this week, and the product is available to buy now at Philips-Hue.com. The Liane is the company's entry into what Philips Hue calls architecturally focused smart lighting, built on OmniGlow technology. The product targets a different buyer than the color bulbs and accent strips that have defined the smart lighting market.
Smart color lighting has an aesthetic gap the Liane is positioned to close. Most products prioritize programmability over form, producing fixtures that work in a teenage bedroom more naturally than a living room designed around permanence. The Liane's architectural framing is a direct answer to that mismatch.
360-degree output is the product's central technical claim, and OmniGlow is the underlying technology. A rope that emits in a full circle has no preferred mounting face. It wraps a structural element or runs along a ceiling edge without leaving a shadow side that needs concealing. Variable brightness and rich color extend the rope's range across conditions within the same space. The same installed run shifts from ambient to bright without a fixture change.
