DFW Crating & Packaging, a Grand Prairie, Texas specialist in custom crates and protective packaging, has been acquired by Specialized Packaging Group, giving SPG its first direct presence in the Dallas-Fort Worth market. Financial terms were not disclosed. DFW Crating will continue to operate from its Grand Prairie facility under its current name.
SPG said the deal adds established client relationships, an existing workforce, and crating expertise the company described as "complementary" to its current operations in North America. SPG CEO Paul Budsworth pointed specifically to DFW's server rack crating capability as a direct fit with SPG's existing portfolio, calling DFW's reputation for quality and customer service the core rationale for the purchase.
Filling out SPG's Texas presence
SPG opened a manufacturing facility in Austin in March, with the stated aim of better serving customers in the southern and mid-south United States. That site focuses on corrugated and foam packaging, initially targeting the automotive and technology sectors. The DFW acquisition adds a second Texas location with a different product focus: custom crating, including the server rack work Budsworth identified as a portfolio complement.
DFW Crating & Packaging's owner and CEO, Angela Mathews, said the acquisition provides a foundation for the company's next growth phase and gives DFW access to SPG's broader operational network, resources, and packaging functions. She said the company will continue building on the customer relationships and service quality that defined its independent operation, and that the deal creates new opportunities for DFW employees.
SPG confirmed DFW's workforce carries over under the transaction. Budsworth added that the combined organization will work to create opportunities for employees on both sides while delivering greater value to customers. No timeline or integration structure beyond the name and location continuity was disclosed.
DFW Crating & Packaging continues to trade under its current name from Grand Prairie.
