$50 separates the Nintendo Switch 2's current price from its new one. Starting September 1, the base 256GB model without a bundled game moves from $449.99 to $499.99 at retail. The math is clean: a single-unit increase, no phased rollout, no regional carve-out mentioned.
Nintendo gave advance notice before the move, and the company attributed the pressure to the broader component cost environment hitting speedy RAM and storage. The Switch 2 carries fast RAM of the kind that has made nearly every competing handheld more expensive over the same period. Nintendo noted that the Steam Deck OLED saw a price increase exceeding $200, which puts the Switch 2's $50 move in a narrower band by comparison.
What buyers get at the new price
The 256GB base unit ships with magnetically attached Joy-Con 2 controllers and a 7.9-inch LCD display. The console runs most original Switch titles through backwards compatibility and carries a library of exclusives including Donkey Kong Bananza and Kirby Air Riders. Future titles locked to the platform include a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Duskbloods.
Nintendo also recently announced two bundle configurations, both priced above $500, shipping this fall. Each bundle packages a game at a slight discount relative to buying separately.
The window before September 1
Retail listings at Amazon, Best Buy, and Target still show the $449.99 price as of now. Buyers who act before Tuesday, September 1, capture the $50 difference outright. That spread is the entire case for moving early: the hardware and library do not change on the other side of the price date, but the entry cost does.
The $499.99 figure becomes the new run-rate price for the base Switch 2 when the calendar flips.
