The Supreme Court ruled Monday against President Donald Trump's bid to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, upholding long-standing protections for the central bank's independence.
Cook, appointed by former President Joe Biden and confirmed to the Fed's seven-member Board of Governors in May 2022, is the first Black woman to serve in that role.
Her term, extended by a September 2023 reappointment, runs through January 2038.
The Firing Attempt and the Legal Fight Trump moved to dismiss Cook in late August, alleging she had misrepresented information connected to three mortgages she obtained before joining the Federal Reserve.
