U.S. strike reported in Kuhestak as Iran cites attack on Hormozgan province

Kuhestak, a settlement in Iran's southern Hormozgan province, was struck by the United States, Iran's Fars News Agency reported. The outlet attributed the attack to American forces. The initial account carried no detail on scale or casualties.

Hormozgan province runs along the northern shore of the Strait of Hormuz. The strait sits at the mouth of the Persian Gulf and serves as the primary maritime passage for crude exports from Gulf producers. A military strike inside the province lands, by geography alone, in close proximity to that chokepoint.

Fars News Agency named only the location and the party it held responsible. No American response to the claim appeared in the agency's report.
