$77,375, raised toward a stated $100,000 goal, had come in on the Brown family GoFundMe at the time of writing, following the drowning death of Curtis and Kim Brown's two-year-old son, Haze, at their Clovis, California residence on July 26. A family member found Haze unresponsive in the pool and called 911. Clovis Police, EMTs, and firefighters responded to the scene. CPR was attempted but failed, and Haze was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later declared deceased.
GoFundMe and family support
Family friend Chandler Pearson launched the campaign, describing the loss as "unimaginable" on the page. Pearson wrote that Kim and Curtis had lost their "miracle baby" and that proceeds would help cover funeral expenses and other unexpected costs while the family focused on healing. Curtis and Kim Brown are parents to five children: son Trey, and triplets Cruze, Julie, and Kash, in addition to Haze.
Brown's BYU career
Curtis Brown played five seasons at BYU from 2002 to 2006, finishing with 3,241 rushing yards, 1,309 receiving yards, and 36 touchdowns across 52 games. He held BYU's all-time rushing record before Harvey Unga broke it in 2009.
A 2004 campaign produced 789 yards on 158 carries with six touchdowns. Brown followed that by leading the Mountain West Conference with 14 rushing touchdowns the next season on 210 carries for 1,123 yards, adding 454 receiving yards on 53 receptions with two additional scores through the air. His final year delivered 1,010 rushing yards and 566 receiving yards with 10 total touchdowns over 13 games.
Brown signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent in 2007 and appeared in four preseason games before the club released him ahead of Week 1.
Clovis police statement
Clovis Police Department spokesman Ty Wood told the New York Post the situation was extremely unfortunate and urged that adults never allow children to swim unsupervised, learn CPR, and keep rescue equipment nearby. BYU did not respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
