3.31 million viewers averaged across NBC and Peacock for Indiana Fever's 113-90 win over the Chicago Sky on Sunday night, the highest WNBA regular-season figure since the league's 1997 inaugural-season opening weekend and the third-most-watched regular-season game in WNBA history. The audience peaked at 3.82 million. Caitlin Clark scored 37 points, went 8 of 12 from three, and added 10 assists.

The viewership run-rate Clark has built
The Fever-Aces game on July 12 pulled 2.64 million on NBC and Peacock. Before Sunday, Clark's season had already produced all-time WNBA single-broadcast records on CBS, ESPN, ION and Prime Video. The Aug. 16 Fever-Dream matchup on ESPN became the largest cable audience in league history. NBC supplied a rare Sunday-night primetime slot for Indiana. The appetite was already there; the network supplied only the window.
The Carrington buildup and what Kanter added
DiJonai Carrington spent two weeks building toward this rematch. On Aug. 8, she was ejected for a Flagrant Foul 2 after striking Sophie Cunningham in the face during a fast-break attempt, then posted "WHITE PRIVILEGE" on Threads with the Fever tagged and marked "8/23" on X, effectively putting the return date on the calendar herself. The two players carried 2024 playoff history as well: Carrington had poked Clark in the eye during a playoff game and previously accused her of flopping. Sunday, Clark drained a three over Carrington and the two exchanged words. Carrington finished 3 of 11 from the field and 0 for 3 from three.
Enes Kanter Freedom took a baseline seat wearing a shirt that read "WOMAN noun. adult human female." Weeks earlier, he had declared for the 2027 WNBA Draft, arguing that self-identification should satisfy the league's eligibility rules. The WNBA's collective bargaining agreement restricts play to women but does not define the term or address gender identity separately. Late in the third quarter, Chicago guard Natasha Cloud scored a layup and began yelling at Kanter. He walked onto the court and was escorted out by security.
Kanter and Cloud were not what drew 3.31 million viewers. Clark is the reason. She had already set the all-time WNBA audience record on CBS, ESPN, ION and Prime Video this season; Sunday's NBC broadcast added the most-watched regular-season mark in 29 years. The Chicago Sky later banned Kanter from the team's home games.
