The initial account carried no detail on scale or casualties. Hormozgan province runs along the northern shore of the Strait of Hormuz.
The strait sits at the mouth of the Persian Gulf and serves as the primary maritime passage for crude exports from Gulf producers.
A military strike inside the province lands, by geography alone, in close proximity to that chokepoint. Fars News Agency named only the location and the party it held responsible.
