Three brands and a technology licensing business now define Bose's operating model, a departure from the single-brand product company the Framingham firm ran for 60 years.
Chief Executive Lila Snyder, speaking on The Verge's Decoder podcast, confirmed the company has sold Bose Professional, acquired the 75-year-old McIntosh Group and Italian speaker maker Sonus faber (more than 40 years in business), and built an Audio Tech unit that ships Bose algorithms into Motorola handsets, Xreal augmented-reality glasses, Sena motorcycle helmet communicators, Skullcandy headphones, and Epson projectors.
The licensing model and its pricing logic Audio Tech runs as B2B2C: Bose sells technology to device makers, with the brand license priced separately.
The Bose name never appears on a partner product without the underlying technology. Partners can take technology alone or add the "Sound by Bose" or "Powered by Bose" mark; cost differs by engagement.
