U.S. restricts government travel in Nogales, Sonora to daylight hours over unspecified threat

Consulate General in Nogales, Sonora has limited U.S. government activities and travel to the city to essential movement during daylight hours only, citing threat information it has not publicly identified.

Embassy and Consulates in Mexico issued the advisory on Saturday. Americans in Nogales received a parallel alert: "We are alerting U.S. citizens of this threat and change in posture," the consulate's statement read.

Sonora's State Security Board contacted U.S. consular officials after the advisory was published.

Mexican state authorities said they had no information establishing a concrete risk to the public but indicated that preventive security operations in Nogales would continue.
