The Office of Personnel Management reported $500 million in waste and fraud within federal health benefits programs.
Carriers managing the Federal Employees Health Benefits and Postal Service Health Benefits plans stated they blocked nearly $510 million in losses prior to or during the payment phase.
These insurers also recovered $21.9 million after claims had already been processed, according to the agency.
Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor noted that the agency provides coverage for roughly 8.9 million current and former federal employees.
