Ed Harris nearly quit Dutton Ranch after learning his season-one role was smaller than promised

Four: the number of main characters Ed Harris was told he would be when the pitch for "Dutton Ranch" arrived before he agreed to sign on to the Paramount+ series.

Harris, who plays veterinarian and war veteran Everett McKinney, told Variety he came close to demanding an exit when filming made clear the reality diverged from that promise.

He described the moment directly: "Get me the f out of here." The gap between the pitch and the role "Prior to signing on for it, I was talked to quite a bit about what the season was, and what my character was going to do and that I was one of the four main characters," Harris said in the Variety interview.

"And that wasn't really the case." He did not call the season a failure.
