140 mph, approximately twice Interstate 75's posted speed limit, is the speed Florida Highway Patrol documented when a green BMW fled a mass street takeover on northbound I-75 in Hillsborough County shortly after 1:30 a.m.
Hundreds of vehicles had blocked all northbound lanes near mile marker 266 in Thonotosassa, with some drivers executing burnouts in the travel lanes. Four people were arrested and booked into Hillsborough County Jail.
The scene at mile marker 266 FHP traffic cameras at mile marker 266 captured the mass gathering as it formed, recording vehicles bringing all northbound lanes to a full stop.
Some drivers performed burnouts in the middle of the interstate. When troopers began responding to the scene, the crowd dispersed fast: video showed drivers and spectators rushing back to their vehicles.
